Delegates elected Bobby Kasper president of the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation at the body’s monthly meeting Oct. 14. Kasper will take immediate charge of the 50,000-member organization.

Kasper, a member of Laborers Local 132 in St. Paul, previously served as Secretary-Treasurer of the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation. Kasper also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the St. Paul Building and Construction Trades Council, and he is a member of the Minnesota AFL-CIO General Board.

“I want to build the Regional Labor Federation into a stronger, more unified organization by growing its membership and supporting union organizing campaigns,” Kasper said. “We will take the lead on issues like health insurance reform, and we will work to elect candidates who value the work union members do.”

Kasper will serve the remaining two years of former President Shar Knutson’s term. Knutson left office Oct. 1 to become president of the Minnesota AFL-CIO.

The St. Paul Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, is a strong voice for working families in the Twin Cities’ East Metro area. The Regional Labor Federation unites 50,000 members of more than 100 affiliate unions to organize workers, build political power and advance worker-friendly legislation.
